Never redeemed points for a bonus point offer, sounds risky to me, I wouldn't do it.
Just a update on this. While you do not collect regular points while redeeming you do however collect bonus points Redeeming for example if you buy something that has a buy this and receive 10 000 points you will receive those points even if your redeeming points to make the purchase. I assume around boxing day instead of a mega redemption like we just had it will be a bonus point event which can have just as great deals.

The ever trusty American express from Scotia Bank that has always given $300 for signing up and 4% back on gas station purchases up to $25000 spent has been revised . It now only gives 3% :( at gas stations and 5% at grocery stores :) up to $50000 combined. A work around is to buy Gas or OLG gift cards at grocery stores to receive 5% for up to 50000 spend. I have not done any of this and the numbers are rough and assumes redemption is in travel rewards. This should all work as long as the Grocery store accepts American Express which I believe Sobeys Does.

The OLG gift cards have been processing for me but they are not without many annoyances . Today a Petro refused them saying they do not accept them. This is a old rule that was acceptable but now that has changed and all stores have to comply to accept gift cards. If a store has a Lottery machine they have to follow the merchant agreement. Altho I did not call and report this Petro I did call to make sure my gift cards are good everywhere .I should call and complain as the guy was a Dick. Later on I had a store today process my two gift cards but because the total did not go down ( it never does) store owner refused this as payment .Many times I tried explaining the slips clearly showed I redeemed $50 twice but I was unsuccessful to get any words in. The store owner was unwilling to call OLG . Luckily the husband entered the store and after alot of back and forth with his wife in a different language he took the same position as his wife but he gave me a chance to talk and agreed there was no harm in calling OLG . OLG pulled up the sale instantly and did not take the store owners attitudes . What was said exactly is unknown to me but OLG did not take kindly to the store owners talk louder and interrupting dialog . Gotta get back to stores I am familiar with even if the cards are working.

I saw them again in the new flyer for Metro. Buy $50 OLG gift card and get 50 Air Miles. Not as good as the other deals, since 95 Air Miles = $10, but if you want to hit Onyx status, it’s a good option.

I Wonder how the Sobeys Deal will work . Can you buy all the gift cards at the store and they give you one gift card or will you get a stack of $10 gift cards or even worse will you have to pay for them $50 at a time?

their computer won't allow more than $10 on the bonus card, so they have to get a huge bunch of gift card and load $10 onto each one. The good thing is the gift cards work at self checkout.

also did I mention they have a deal whereby you get 150 air miles for buying 150$ sobey gift card, basically like ~10% off your future grocery bill

sobeys has buy $150 in sobeys gift cards and get 150 air miles.
urban fresh has buy $100 in urban fresh gift cards and get 100 air miles.
foodland has buy $75 in foodland gift cards and get 75 air miles.

each deal is max. 5 per air miles collector.
gift cards work at all 3 stores, interchangeable.

get all 3 deals! plus, these cards can be used for lottery or buying other gift cards.

5*150+5*100+5*75=1625 air miles (cash miles worth ~$171)

Lots of crooks out there guys so use strong passwords or two-factor authentication (2FA), if you can.
