Points from gas stations
Re: Points from gas stations
Not all store knows how to redeem the gift cards, especially small corner stores. You'll be better off using them at gas stations or supermarkets. And yes, I've seen OLG gift cards at Shell stations.
Re: Points from gas stations
Rexall deal this week. buy $300 in Canadian Tire gift cards, and get a $25 bonus card for free!
Re: Points from gas stations
Thanks for the update kbet, with the Shell mastercard deal I am inclined to stick with that until end of year. I got my cashback from that deal so it really works!
The CT card deal seem to be happening more often now. I wonder if they use that as a way to raise capital/cash flow when needed. In any case it's not as good as it used to be.

Re: Points from gas stations
I’ve been buying lots OLG gift cards from Shell lately. The last time I was at one Shell location, the manager told me they received a call from OLG that they suspected credit card fraud due to a large number of OLG gift cards being activated at Shell locations around the city. OLG suspected someone was using a stolen credit card to buy lots of gift cards. Later, an employee at another Shell told me the same thing.
I believe that very few OLG gift cards are ever sold around here because almost all stores have been unfamiliar with redeeming them, so it may have grabbed the attention of OLG that so many were being activated in a short time.
Anyway, OLG asked the manager to review and save the video tapes. She reviewed them, realized that the purchaser was me and was able to tell them not to worry because I’m there all the time. Still, it didn’t stop OLG from calling other stores warning them about a possible fraudster.
I have purchased both the variable (load up to $100) cards and also the yellow $50 fixed price cards. Both take a modest amount of time to activate. I haven’t redeemed any $50 cards yet. The $100 cards take a fair bit of time to redeem. They are certainly slower than paying with a credit card. Are the $50 cards any faster when paying? Are they swiped with a credit card reader? Or do they also go through the blue OLG terminal. They are activated differently so I imagine they are redeemed differently.

They should be redeemed all the same way, from the blue terminal.

Re: Points from gas stations
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I wanted to post before anyone makes any further significant purchases. This was posted on the Shell website earlier today:
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION
This promotion has ended. As of October 8, 2019 at 10am EST, no new card enrolments or statement credits for new purchases will be processed. Please visit shell.ca for other available promotions.
It was great while it lasted. I certainly wish I had been more aggressive with my purchases for the time the promotion was valid.

Thanks Buff
I was saddened, but not surprised that they had to end the deal, otherwise by the end of the week I am sure all the Shell in my city would be swept clean of cards.
Best of luck to you and everyone.
In case anyone needs, Shoppers this week as Canadian Tire card buy 300 get 25 bonus.

I too just got back the rest of my 10% credits in the past few days tshi. It was great while it lasted, but a few here correctly predicted that this was not going to last until the end of the year.
Thanks for posting about the Canadian Tire gift cards. I am still trying to work through a stack from a while ago when they were 10% off so will leave this one alone.
